Jim’s SF Trip – March 2005

Thursday night……caller ID saved the day, when our answering machine could manage to store only garbled noises, since a return call, to the Errington’s, showed that Jim was coming to town. Mucho excitement! After a near 80 degree day, here in the East Bay, it was a bit bizarre to hear about 3 blizzards in a row, but global warming comes with a price?

Saturday, March 12th

Jim awoke in the wee small hours of the Connecticut morning to the sound of a snowplough, rumbling down their street, clearing his way to JFK airport where he would sit in a plane, for an hour, while it waited for de-icing.

Adrian was woken by Pearl heading out to meet up with her Pat Lauer, her usual walking partner. The weather screamed "bike!" so he threw on some shorts, selected some wheels and cruised down the Iron Horse trail to meet up with Pearl, Pat and the Lauer’s latest dog, a Tibetan Terrier.

Technology rocks – I still get a buzz out of how simple it is to do such things as checking current flight arrivals information, over the Internet, so it was easy to find out that Jim’s plane was running late and then, when it did come in, coordinating pick-up was a breeze thanks to cell phones.

We spent the trip into and through SF catching up on family matters. The Errington’s offspring are a couple of years ahead of us so already have Richard in college at Leeds University where he is studying writing. Jen has switched to Choate boarding school, to finish up her high school studies, but is considering something in a sunnier location, possibly Pomona, when she graduates.

Photographic note – its probably a good job the weather was dull since Pearl had the camera set for taking pictures in a not-very bright theater.
Adrian, who reads manuals rarely, wasn’t bright enough to notice that the camera should have been set on "P" for automatic, instead of "A" for something completely different.

Weather note: Jim called, Monday, to confirm that he had finally got to see the sun shine in San Francisco, and he was able to take a trip up the landmark Coit Tower to take full advantage of some 100-mile visibility.
